Project Overview
Canterra Builders proudly contributed to the expansion of West Park Healthcare Centre (WPCC), a leading provider of rehabilitation and complex continuing care services in Ontario. The project involved the development of a new six-storey, state-of-the-art hospital building—significantly enhancing WPCC’s ability to serve patients with chronic illnesses and complex health conditions.
This new facility expands WPCC’s capacity to deliver inpatient and outpatient services through a patient-centered design and modern infrastructure. This project showcases Canterra Builders’ ability to apply its stringent General Contracting, complex Construction, and compliance skills to highly controlled, critical-use environments outside of the traditional resource sector.
Key Challenges & Solutions
-
Continuity of Care
Construction took place without disrupting daily medical operations. This was ensured by phased planning, careful segregation of work zones, and strong coordination with existing healthcare staff, minimizing impact on patients.
-
Regulatory Compliance
Navigating complex, shifting healthcare and municipal regulations was essential. Our teams employed continuous compliance auditing and worked closely with authorities to integrate modern systems into a highly controlled environment.
-
Tight Site Logistics
Urban constraints required precise traffic management, just-in-time material staging, and disciplined scheduling to avoid interference with critical hospital activity and local communities.
-
Technology Integration
Advanced medical technologies and sensitive life-support systems had to be seamlessly embedded into the infrastructure. Our specialists collaborated with clinical experts and system engineers to ensure full compatibility and functionality prior to turnover.
-
Safety in Critical Environment
Maintained an impeccable safety record despite the complexity of working around an active hospital campus, proving the effectiveness of our Health & Environment protocols in critical-use environments.
Outcome
The completed expansion positions the WPCC as a flagship rehabilitation facility in Ontario. With increased capacity, upgraded technologies, and a purpose-built environment, the new six-storey hospital strengthens regional healthcare infrastructure and proves Canterra Builders’ capability to deliver large-scale, high-compliance construction with surgical precision and accountability.
